THE MASTER CLEANSE
The Master Cleanse was created with the very purpose of detoxifying your body and aiding in the removal of harmful toxins. The cleanse will eliminate toxins (pesticides, hormones, prescription drugs, chemical fertilizers, heavy metals) and congestion that have built up in the body which in turn helps to rejuvenate the body. For people in good health, the body is designed to eliminate normal everyday toxins from itself through the lungs, kidneys, liver, and other eliminator organs. The Master Cleanse has been credited with helping lose weight, increasing energy, rejuvenating skin’s appearance, reducing allergies and digestive complaints, and even alleviating some chronic diseases. The Master cleanse involves drinking a concoction made from water, fresh lemons, grade B maple syrup and cayenne pepper.
Formula for 32 oz. of water
2 tablespoons of organic lemon or lime juice
1.5 tablespoons of grade B maple syrup
(make sure it says "Grade B" - meaning unrefined)
Pinch of cayenne
Water is an important ingredient in this cleanse as it helps to transport and flush the toxins out of our body and in the meantime keeping our body hydrated.
For many years, lemons have been used to cleanse one's body due to the acids found in it, which have an alkalizing effect on the body. In traditional medicine, the lemon is widely known for its healing powers and is used in many different ways. Lemon juice, when taken regularly in the morning, acts as a tonic to the liver and stimulates it to produce bile making it ready to digest the day's food. It can also help to it controls excessive bile flow. Because of its high vitamin C content, it is thought to help prevent and treat many infections, hasten wound healing and temper down high fever. Although lemon is acidic to the taste, it is actually alkalinizing to the blood and body so it is very useful in symptoms of acidosis. By having lemon squeezed in your water you create a beverage that raises your body’s pH. Put simply, having a low pH (or being Acidic) is not healthy. Our bodies do not function nearly as well when they are acidic. They are more susceptible to sickness, disease, fatigue, etc. Lemon is very effective in curing many digestion problems, including nausea, heartburn, constipation and worm infestations. Lemon juice can also relieve symptoms of asthma, tonsillitis and sore throat. Lemon is also a diuretic, so it is good for people with urinary tract infections and high uric acid problems, such as those with arthritis or rheumatism because it helps flush out all the toxins and bad bacteria. Lemon acts as a sedative for the nerves. It also helps to control high blood pressure, due partially to its high levels of potassium. Lemon contains more potassium than apple or grapes, which is beneficial to the heart. Lemon-juice is a powerful antibacterial and is a blood purifier. It has been proved by experiments that the bacteria of malaria, cholera, diphtheria, typhoid and other deadly diseases are destroyed in lemon-juice. It is an antiseptic, or is an agent that prevents sepsis [the presence of pathogenic bacteria] or putrefaction [decomposition of tissue]. It is also anti-scorbutic, a term meaning a remedy which will prevent disease and assist in cleansing the system of impurities. Lemon juice contains some vitamin A and the vitamin C of lemon-juice is very effective because it is combined with bioflavonoids (vitamin P). In addition to Vitamin C, lemon also contains niacin and thiamin in small amounts. Vitamin P in lemon strengthens the blood vessels and prevents internal hemorrhage. It is, therefore, extremely useful in high blood pressure, in which cerebro-vascular accidents commonly occur. Lemon is very much useful in maintaining the health of the teeth and the bones. The vitamin C content of lemon helps considerably in calcium metabolism. Lemon even works as a natural skin cleanser.
Grade B Maple Syrup
Maple syrup is rich in minerals, and provides the beneficial carbohydrates that our body needs and in the meantime provides energy to our body. The mixture of lemon juice and maple syrup not only provides antioxidants and vitamin C for your body, but it also helps in detoxifying your body and in breaking down body fats. Maple syrup has many great benefits due in part to its high levels of minerals like manganese and zinc, which can assist in heart health and in balancing cholesterol levels. The trace mineral manganese is an essential cofactor in a number of enzymes important in energy production and antioxidant defenses. Another of the main health benefits of maple syrup is that it acts as a good sweetener and if you are trying to look after your heart the zinc content of maple syrup acts as an antioxidant to help prevent damage caused by cholesterol and other fats. The zinc supplied by maple syrup also has other functions that can decrease the progression of atherosclerosis. The zinc and manganese content in maple syrup help build a healthy immune system as your immune cells depend on zinc to perform optimally, enabling your body to heal better than it would without the extra minerals. Maple syrup may help to support reproductive health and provides special benefits for men. Zinc is concentrated more highly in the prostate than in any other human tissue, and low levels of zinc in this gland relate to a higher risk for prostate cancer. Manganese may also play a role in supporting men’s health since, as a catalyst in the synthesis of fatty acids and cholesterol, it also participates in the production of sex hormones, thus helping to benefit reproductive health.
Cayenne Pepper (powder)
A metabolizing agent that helps the lemon juice to create a cleansing effect within your body, cayenne pepper when mixed with lemon also stimulates blood circulation by raising our body temperature. Cayenne pepper is used internally to improve circulation, for the cold stage of fevers, varicose veins, asthma, and digestive problems such as dyspepsia, colic and flatulence. It is also noted as being important as a gastrointestinal detoxifying agent. The heat produced by cayenne is caused by its high concentration of a substance called capsaicin, which has been widely studied for its pain-reducing effects, its cardiovascular benefits, and its ability to help prevent ulcers. Capsaicin is also a potent inhibitor of substance P, a neuropeptide associated with inflammatory processes. Capsaicin’s peppery heat also stimulates secretions that help clear mucus and congestion from your stuffed up nose or congested lungs. In addition to their high capsaicin content, cayenne peppers' bright red color signals its high content of beta-carotene or pro-vitamin A. Often called the anti-infection vitamin, vitamin A is essential for healthy epithelial tissues including the mucous membranes that line the nasal passages, lungs, intestinal tract and urinary tract and serve as the body's first line of defense against invading pathogens. Beta-carotene is not only a potent antioxidant in its own right, but can be converted in the body to vitamin A. In addition, its antioxidant activity make it useful in preventing the free radical damage that can lead to atherosclerosis, colon cancer, and diabetic complications, like nerve damage and heart disease. Capsaicin is being studied as an effective treatment for sensory nerve fiber disorders, including pain associated with arthritis, psoriasis, and diabetic neuropathy. Cayenne and other red chili peppers have been shown to have cardiovascular benefits by reducing blood cholesterol, triglyceride levels, and platelet aggregation, while increasing the body's ability to dissolve fibrin, a substance integral to the formation of blood clots. It not only cleans but also feeds the vital elements into the cell structure of capillaries, veins, arteries and helps adjust blood pressure to normal levels. Hot peppers may help prevent them by killing bacteria you may have ingested, while powerfully stimulating the cells lining the stomach to secrete protective buffering juices that prevent ulcer formation. The use of cayenne pepper is actually associated with a reduced risk of stomach ulcers. Cayenne is also great for the stomach and the intestinal tract. It stimulates the peristaltic motion of the intestines and aids in assimilation and elimination. Lastly, Cayenne helps people lose weight. All that heat you feel after eating hot chili peppers takes energy--and calories to produce. Even sweet red peppers have been found to contain substances that significantly increase thermogenesis (heat production) and oxygen consumption for more than 20 minutes after they are eaten.
